Finding work you enjoy isn't about finding the "perfect" job. It's about finding roles that fit how you think, what you value and what gives you energy. Here's a simple framework.
Step 1: List what energizes you
Write down the moments at work or school when you felt most alive. Were you solving a puzzle, helping someone, leading a group, creating something? Look for patterns.
Step 2: Name your strengths
Ask three people who know you what they'd come to you for. Combine their answers with your own list. Strengths often hide in things that feel easy to you.
Step 3: Clarify your values
Do you want stability, flexibility, impact, recognition, learning or high earnings? You can't have everything at once, so decide what matters most right now.
Step 4: Explore roles, not just titles
Different jobs can use the same strengths. A creative person could design, write, film or market. An analytical person could do research, finance or product strategy. Look for the work behind the title.
Step 5: Test before you leap
Try a short course, a side project, a volunteer role or a conversation with someone in the field. Small experiments beat big guesses.
Step 6: Review regularly
Your interests and needs change. Check in every year: what's working, what isn't, and what's next?
